Airlines want to eliminate polluting emissions by 2050

International airlines announced on Monday the goal of eliminating carbon dioxide emissions by 2050, as part of efforts to combat global warming, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said.

“Airlines are committed to achieving zero carbon emissions,” said Willie Walsh, director of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), quoted by Le Figaro.

“This ambitious goal is a necessity that will ensure the freedom of flight for future generations,” argued Willie Walsh.

The announcement was made during a meeting of airline representatives in the American city of Boston.

Major European airlines agree to return money for flights canceled due to pandemic

A group of 16 airlines have agreed to return the money to passengers whose flights were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Reuters reports . The companies have also promised to provide more information on passenger rights in the future. 

Aegean Airlines, Air Frances, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Eeasyjet, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa, Norwegian, Ryanair, TAP, Vueling and Wizz Air have decided to repay the amounts due to their customers on time. which had flights canceled during the coronavirus pandemic but also to better inform their passengers about the canceled flights due to the companies. They will also offer vouchers in the form of compensation only when passengers expressly opt for this option. 

“I welcome the fact that all the mentioned companies have committed themselves to solving the remaining problems. This is crucial for restoring passenger confidence. The return of the air transport sector depends on this “, said the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean.

The national authorities of the EU Member States are responsible for implementing EU consumer protection legislation. The European Commission emphasized that this was the largest action launched in the history of the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network and the first action to be based on an alert issued by the Commission.
